Travel abroad with the child

They can travel abroad for a period up to 1 months*.

In that case:

1. Send the other parent** a registered letter about the country of destination, purpose and duration of the visit.

2. When crossing the border, show the copy of the court decision or decision of the tutelage and guardianship authorities on the registration of residence of the child to the border guards.

*If the purpose of the trip is treatment; education; participation in the children’s competitions, festivals, science fairs, school competitions, ecological, technical, art, tourist research, sport events; leisure and recreation.

** If their place of residence is known.

 

You should return to Ukraine with the child within 1 month from the departure date.

REMEMBER! There is a liability for a deliberate overstaying in the form of a fine (from 1700 to 3400 UAH) and loss of the right to travel abroad with the child and without the other parent’s permission for a year.

If your child is owed child alimony for more than 4 months or more than 3 months for a child with disability of serious illness, you can travel abroad with them for a period up to 1 month without debtor’s permission*.

 

In case that:

1. Get the document that confirms other parent’s alimony debt from state of private bailiff at the place of the alimony court decision’s enforcement.

2. When crossing the border, show the document that confirms other parent’s alimony debt:

- over 4 months or

- over 3 months + documentation which confirms child’s disability or serious illness.

3. Return to Ukraine with the child.

 

*If the purpose of the trip is treatment; education; participation in the children’s competitions, festivals, science fairs, school competitions, ecological, technical, art, tourist research, sport events; leisure and recreation.

The duration of the trip is established in the court decision or the notarized permit*.

In that case:

1. Write the other parent a registered letter and ask them to permit the child to travel abroad.

2. If there is no responce within 10 days after the letter is delivered, make an application to the court for permitting to travel abroad with the child without the other parent’s permission.

3. When crossing the border, show the notarized permit of the parent or a copy of the court decision on permitting to travel abroad with the child.

REMEMBER! You should return to Ukraine within the time limit established in the court decision or in the letter of contest.
